Ten years ago, developer Crytek, came with a new game engine: the CryEngine. This engine was very innovative and is very suitable to make topgames with. For instance, the populair Crysis franchise and FarCry are made with this engine. But because it’s a pretty complicated engine, Sean Tracy and Paul Reindell wrote a book about it. In 354 pages, they’ll explain everything you need to know to quickly get started with the engine.
Cry Engine
If you don’t know what the CryEngine is and where you can use it for, then you will not get far. That’s why this book explains (very clear) what the CryEngine is, what the possibilities are and how big your team need to be to develop a game. It’s handy to know these things and in five minutes you can get to work.
Learn by doing, less theory, more results
You can learn many codes, but if you know them, you don’t know how to use them. And that’s why this book directly starts with practice. Trough examples you learn step by step how to use the engine. That’s the strong point of Packt Publishing. Because by every book of Packt Publishing you learn things by using everything in practice and you don’t learn only the theory.
Time for action
For beginners
This book is for those who wants to start with the CryEngine, but who do not know where to start. If you have finished the book you know much about the engine and you can specialize further in it. The book is very clear, there are many examples in it and on the website of Packt Publishing you can download several examples and codes so that you don’t have to retype/copy paste them from the book.
Conclusion
If you want to start with the CryEngine, then this is the perfect book for you. You don’t have to learn many codes, but you’ll learn by example. The writers explains everything very clear and if you finished the book you can directly start to make your own game. If you’ve finished the book and you’re already started with the CryEngine, than the book is an excellent reference book, because every chapter contains a good summery and you can find the things that you want to know quick.
