Double Click on My Computer or computer. on your start menu
Click on Tools > Folder Options... in the menus. (Windows XP)
Click on orgainse > FOlder option (WIndows 7)
Click on the View tab.
Remove the check from Hide extensions for known file types.
Click the OK button.
Now, came back to your file you will see it as, <file name>.txt change it to <file name>.reg now file format have been changed.
